Following its successful operations in Mali, ADER has supported since 2004 the initiatives of Senegalese migrants living in France, who have set up the Development and Construction Aid Association (AECD). AECD and ADER are currently working on a three-year housing development programme in Senegal in the region of Tambacounda, which will be launched in 2006.

The populations concerned

  • 150 Senegalese migrants living in the Paris area as well as their families back home.
  • 700 underprivileged families living in the temporary districts of the town of Tambacounda.

  • Ballotiral Yonti construction co-operative.
  • The Senegalese NGO GADEC.
  • The Dakar branch of the solar energy company Total Energie.

Objectives

  • Organising and dedicating to property investment the financial resources raised through the savings of migrants.
    Access to normal bank credit plans for migrants.
  • Setting up or consolidating the house building sector.
  • Setting up a solar equipment installation and maintenance co-operative.
  • Creating employment opportunities by training villagers in the solar energy sector.
  • Access to property for the underprivileged local populations.
    Long term improvement of living conditions in the country of origin.
